GriefShare – “The deeper you love the deeper you Grieve”

    • For those who have lost a loved one
    • Faith and Scriptural based program from Church Initiative  (CI) in the US
    • Thirteen weekly sessions
    • Consists of DVD’s, workbooks and sharing
    • Online support from CI, daily messages, prayers, resource centre
    • Runs twice per year at St John’s, starts February and August each year
    • Two facilitators
    • Has run 14 times
    • About 10 to 15 attendees at a time
    • Only pay for the workbook if affordable for attendees (R150)

Divorce Care – “For those hurting from separation or divorce”

    • 13 weekly sessions
    • Program from Church Initiative (CI)
    • Scriptural based, sharing and workbook
    • Set of DVD’s
    • Designed by Psychologist, Ministers of Religion, and many who have been through the devastation of divorce
    • Runs twice per year at St John’s, Starting February and August
    • Online support
    • Usually 6 to 10 participants
    • Only cost is the workbook
    • Three Facilitators

Divorce Care for Kids

    • For children 6 to 12 years old
    • Program from CI
    • 10 week program
    • Very participative with lots of activities
    • Use of art therapy
    • Run once a year at St John’s
    • Usually starts in May
    • 5 to 10 children attending
    • Two Facilitators
    • Not easy to get a commitment from parents especially when a class with school activities
    • Extensive material

Depression and Anxiety Support Group

    • Meets fortnightly
    • Receives support and guidance from the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG)
    • Six facilitators trained by SADAG
    • Leader had been affected by Depression in her family
    • About 20 participants fortnightly
    • Sufferers or caregivers
    • Monthly supervision of facilitators by a Psychiatrist
    • Monthly, an expert guest speaker is invited and these talks are open to anyone
    • No cost to participants
    • Amazing bonding takes place, becomes a support system

Lay Counselling

    • Is free or donation
    • Safe and confidential
    • By well trained and supervised counselors
    • Weekdays 9am to 9pm, Saturdays 8am to 3pm
    • Duration of sessions is 1 hour per week
    • Couples can only be seen together
    • Counsellors are registered with SAAP
    • Clients sign consent letter
    • Interested persons are required to call the coordinator who decides whether we can address their needs and refers them to a counselor
